Context

After completing my Master's, UNSW invited me to stay on as a Casual Academic - teaching the same subject area I had spent four years immersed in as a practitioner. It was the first time the two sides of my background converged in one role.

The Challenge

Teaching complex technical concepts like DeFi protocols and blockchain data structures to students with no prior exposure required translating deep domain knowledge into clear, accessible language - fast.

What I Did

  • Delivered course support for FINS5547 and FINS3647 via Moodle - grading, content updates, and student Q&A for ~300 students per term
  • Assisted with research activities related to Cryptocurrency, DeFi, and Blockchain Technology applications
  • Developed supplementary materials breaking down on-chain analytics and tokenomics for undergraduate audiences

What I Learned

How to communicate technical blockchain concepts to non-technical audiences
The gap between academic theory and real market behaviour - and how to bridge it
Research methodology in emerging technology fields
How teaching deepens your own understanding of complex systems

Explaining something clearly is the final test of whether you actually understand it.

Context

METALOOK was a blockchain media company operating at the peak - and then the collapse - of the 2021–2022 crypto cycle. I joined to lead business development as the market turned, which meant building partnerships in an industry that was contracting fast.

The Challenge

Closing media deals and sponsorships when the broader market was in freefall. Companies were cutting budgets, projects were disappearing overnight, and trust in the industry was at a low. Revenue growth under those conditions required a fundamentally different approach.

What I Did

  • Conducted weekly training for a 10-member team, achieving a 20% rise in lead conversions
  • Secured partnerships with 10 blockchain events and 5 major conferences through sponsorship and media deals
  • Closed negotiations with 20+ clients to create bespoke media solutions, increasing media revenue by 25%
  • Maintained pipeline activity and team morale during one of crypto's worst downturns

What I Learned

How to sell during a down market - positioning value over hype
Team leadership and performance management under pressure
Partnership structuring and sponsorship deal mechanics
The difference between companies built on fundamentals vs. those built on sentiment

The bear market filtered out everyone who was there for the hype. What remained was the real industry.

Context

After establishing myself in market analysis and BD, I moved into the venture arm of BlockBase - evaluating investment opportunities and building the institutional side of the business, including university partnerships across Vietnam.

The Challenge

Deploying capital and building partnerships during extreme market volatility required rigorous due diligence and the ability to separate signal from noise in a market saturated with low-quality projects.

What I Did

  • Streamlined team structure and operations, boosting efficiency by 30% across crypto in-house projects
  • Collaborated with five top Vietnamese universities to launch blockchain courses for 500+ students
  • Drove $500k in 2022 revenue through strategic investments, accelerating product adoption by 40%
  • Expanded reach across APAC and Europe through targeted partnership development

What I Learned

Venture due diligence - evaluating tokenomics, team quality, and market fit
How to structure university-industry partnerships from scratch
Capital allocation strategy in high-volatility environments
Cross-regional business development across APAC and European markets

Good investments in bad markets outperform good investments in good markets - the discipline required is completely different.

Context

This was the bull market peak of the 2021 cycle. The opportunity was enormous but so was the noise. My role was to identify which blockchain projects were worth partnering with and build relationships that would survive the inevitable correction.

The Challenge

Distinguishing high-potential blockchain ventures from speculative ones required developing a systematic approach to tokenomics analysis and market assessment - often without reliable precedent or comparable benchmarks.

What I Did

  • Expanded strategic partnerships by 40% and developed strategies for high-potential blockchain ventures
  • Analyzed tokenomics, business models, and market trends to assess and value crypto projects
  • Led blockchain product initiatives, boosting user engagement by 30% and transaction volume by 50%
  • Built data-driven growth frameworks that informed product and partnership decisions

What I Learned

Systematic tokenomics analysis and crypto project valuation
How to build growth frameworks in fast-moving, data-sparse environments
The mechanics of blockchain product adoption and user behaviour
Pattern recognition across early-stage crypto projects - what separates signal from noise

The best analysis in a bull market is asking what happens when the music stops.

Context

This was my first professional role - taken at 19, one year into university, during the height of the 2021 crypto bull run. I didn't come in as an intern waiting for instructions. I came in with a question: how does this industry actually work?

The Challenge

Building a credible crypto community from scratch, with no brand recognition and no existing audience, required understanding not just the technology but the psychology of why people engage with crypto content.

What I Did

  • Analyzed cryptocurrency markets, blockchain technology, and investor sentiment to create data-driven content
  • Grew a crypto-focused community to over 10,000 Facebook members, 7,000 Telegram users, and 3,000 YouTube subscribers in four months
  • Developed growth strategies that increased user retention by 20%
  • Built content frameworks connecting market data to community narratives

What I Learned

How crypto market cycles drive community sentiment and engagement
Content strategy for technical audiences - translating complexity into engagement
Community building mechanics across multiple platforms simultaneously
How to operate and deliver results without structure or precedent

I was losing money at the same time I was making it. The volatility wasn't just a number on a chart - it was personal. And that made every lesson land harder.
